Should I clip off my house plants' brown tips of leaves? And why are they brown? Do all pots need drain holes?

Yes you should clip off the brown tips of the leaves,it is brown because possible it is not humid enough,or doesn't get enough, depending on what plant you have you need drain holes, the holes let excess water come out instead of the plant drowning in water.

I'd let the leaf tips as they are. If you don't have holes in your pot, you need to re-pot in one that does or re-pot in existing but put small rocks and a little plant charcoal in the bottom. How big is the pot? I'd put in at least an inch depending on pot size. If it's pretty big, put down more. The only plants that i can think of that like their feet wet are water plants. Hope this helps.
Reply:If possible I let leaves die off on their own. I believe the plant suffers more after being cut. If its not an eye sore, let them be, and all pots should have holes. Just put the tray that they include underneath and the plants will suck up that water when they need it.
Reply:due to underwatering...not enough water...and yes pots need holes...if you have pots without holes...add rocks atleast a few inches to allow water to drain down and allow your plants to dry out some before the next watering
Reply:Yes snip them off. But go down to the stalk. They may be brown from being too dry, or maybe something else. I water plants once a week with regular water, once a month with Miracle Grow, and every now and then I put them in the shower to help keep their leaves clean.
Reply:Brown tips are usually over watering but too low humidity and sometimes not enough water it depends on the type of plant it is.Yes I would trim off the brown so the plant can put its energy to producing more vibrant foliage. And yes most plants need drain holes in the pots. You may root an Ivy with water, needing no drainage..
