How can I remove gnats from house plants with no chemicals?

The previous recommendations of using Ivory or Dawn dishsoap will work. Just mix a few drops with some lukewarm water and then drench the soil. The soap will destroy the waxy cuticle on the insect so they'll be unable to repel water and then die in a couple of days.

I'd also advise you to place about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch of sand over the top of your soil. This will eliminate their ability to breed/lay eggs in the soil media.

Hope this information was useful for you. GOOD LUCK!

How can I remove gnats from house plants with no chemicals?
If you don't consider hydrogen peroxide a chemical spray it on the plant, if you do then use garlic cloves and place them in the soil, if you can rub the garlic on the plant, bugs hate garlic
Reply:Put a little liquid dish soap ina squirt bottle with some water and spray the plant.
Reply:use ivory dish detergent ,one half teaspoon in a one quart spray bottle.ivory detergent is not a chemical.
Reply:I would try one of the fly traps that they sell at WM. One reason because gnats fly and maybe they will get caught up in the trap
Reply:fly swatter, but it is sooo hard, cause they are so small, but kudos to you for not using chemicals!
Reply:Try garden lime. Just sprinkle a thin coat on the top of the dirt, covering the dirt completely. You can also mist the plant with water and put it by a fan on low to put a little breeze on the plant. Gnats and spider mites don't like it. The lime always worked well for me and I would reapply it every 2 weeks.
Reply:Dish soap. Mix a little in water and spray it on your plants. No harm to the plant but will kill the bugs.
Reply:the question is ,, where are they coming from. gnats have to have something dead to lay maggots into or some un-composted manure.. the soap and the sand cover are good ideas, but you also need to consider the source.. gad flys and gnats are attracted to those little unattractive fly strips and your neighborhood nursery or greenhouse should have a variety of traps
Reply:try this it worked for me

get a cup half full of vinegar. place a plastic wrap over it and secure it with a rubber band or something . poke holes in the plastic small enough so the gnats can get down in it.Than place it near ur plants. The gnats will go down in it and they wont be able to get back out(they are to dumb) . Good luck
