How can knats (from house plants) be eliminated safely?

These knats are very tiny fly like bugs that get into food and drinks and are just extremely annoying!

You have fungus gnats.

My wife has found that GardensAlive.com has a product that you apply to the soil in the pots and it kills the larvae of the gnats. You have to use it more than once to get the full life cycle stopped but it really works. It is a bacteria that is safe and non toxic to people and pets.

Reply:gnats, like little fruit flies?

I mix water, vinegar, little dab of liquid soap and sugar or soda in a small glass, put plastic wrap over it and poke little gnat size holes in it. In about three days they were all gone (they drowned). I put one by what they were attracted to which in my case was a few soggy potatoes i had forgoten about and one in my kitchen window.

They also seemed to love my coffee so when I was done with it I would leave a little in it and leave it on the counter so some could commit suicide while I was gone.
Reply:Wash/spray the plants with soapy water
Reply:They're probably fungus gnats. You can let the plants dry out quite a bit, or purchase beneficial nematodes to add to the soil for a "bio-clean" solution. Look online.
Reply:flying insect spray
Reply:as far as i know gnats lay eggs in moist environments and if you water your plants regularly, i don't know how to stop that. perhaps some sort of bug spray?
Reply:Make the following mixture....2 teaspoons dish detergent to 1 quart of water. Spray/water the plant.
