New cat is chewing house plants, especially cyclamen, is it poisonous?

Just brought new 1-2yr old all black girl home from shelter. She is exploring the house. When she went into my living room she started chewing a green fern type house plant, and then tried to start chewing the cyclamen, she tried a couple of times, so i shooed her away. Need to know if that is going to do her any harm. If it is, i will boot the plant out right away!

Yes, cyclamen is poisonous to cats, and so are a lot of other plants. You should take the kitty to a vet just in case she consumed any leaves or whatnot.

The two links provided will give you a list of what plants are toxic to cats, and which plants are safe for them.
Reply:I would put it out to be on the safe side, I am not sure if it has any toxins in it. Grow some grass for you cat, or bring some grass from out side for your cat.
Reply:my cat does it to it helps them digest u can go to the store and buy special plants for them to eat so they don't eat yours!!
Reply:Go on the internet and type in Plants Poisoneous to cat and you will get a list of plants to keep away from your pet. This is serious as your pet could go into shock and die. I don't keep live plants in my apartment - my cat means too much to me to harm her in any way.
Reply:Cyclamen IS poisonous. Get your cat to a vet NOW!!!
Reply:keep plants AWAY from cats unless you know 100% they won't harm them.......I came home not long ago to find my cat gasping for breath on the kitchen floor, she was fitting, had vomited and soiled herself......(she'd been left 1/2 hour and was fine when i went out)....... i put her in her cat box and rushed her to the vet but she passed away before i got there (10 mins after i found her)........we knew it wassome sort of poisoning and she does not wander so it was something at home,,,,,,,then we noticed a plant called "lucky bamboo" was nibbled, done a google and found this pant (part of the lilly family) is toxic to cats..........

MANY common house and garden plants can kill a cat or make them very ill.....

I lost my beautiful cat cos of a bloody plant and that really hurts.
